postheadericon *WATCH* Two Armed Robbers Dead After Father, While Holding Infant Son, Shoots After Having Gun Pointed At Him

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL — An off-duty police officer in Brazil happened to be inside a pharmacy when two armed robbers came in looking to score big.

Both of those robbers, aged 24 and 22, didn’t leave the pharmacy alive.

The officer, identified as Sgt. Rafael Souza, wasted no time with his response, even while holding his child.

Inside Edition reports;

In the footage, Souza is seen holding his son with one arm and pointing a gun with his opposite hand.

He shoots one man as the suspect runs around a floor display. He runs and fires again, then disappears out of the frame.

The cop’s wife is seen cowering behind another merchandise display, then stretching out her arms toward her husband, who hands off the baby and continues chasing the suspects.

Watch the surveillance video below:

Our friends at TTAG asked their readers a question based on the video: What would you do with your kid(s) during a self-defense gun use?

Well, it’s hard to say, and I imagine that this officer acted the best he could in the given situation. This likely began very quickly, and who’s to say setting the child down first would have been a good or bad decision. If there’s no apparent place to put the child in a split second, it seems that this is the next best option.

What are your thoughts? Where would your kids go if you found yourself in a similar situation? Chime in below.

postheadericon [VIDEO] Bounty Hunters Go After Wanted Man At Car Dealership, Three End Up Dead

GREENVILLE, TEXAS — A pair of bounty hunters were on the track of a fugitive, Ramon Michael  Hutchinson, 49, who was wanted on felony drug charges. They found him at a car dealership and decided to take him into custody.

The results were deadly and captured on a cell phone camera.

Both bounty hunters, identified as Fidel Garcia Jr., 54, and Gabriel Bernal, 33, as well as Hutchinson were killed in the shootout. Around 20 shots were fired in just a few seconds.

From Dallas News:

Hutchinson was in an office with another person when Bernal and Garcia approached and began giving him commands, according to Greenville officials. Hutchinson tried to pull a pistol from his waistband but dropped it on a desk.

Officials said the men scuffled as Hutchinson tried to pick up his gun. Hutchinson was able to retrieve his gun and began firing, and the bounty hunters fired back, according to police.

No one else was wounded in the exchange. Watch the video below:

I guess the risk of death comes with being a bounty hunter, but it seems that a better option would have been to wait for the man to exit the building. Instead, other lives were at danger when the fugitive was confronted inside a glass box. It’s incredibly sad that these men lost their lives, and I wish that another route was taken to try and apprehend the man.

If you can’t get him as he’s leaving the dealership, follow him until he stops. Cornering a wanted man with others around doesn’t seem like the best way to get things done in the safest and best way possible.

postheadericon Elderly Detroit Man Forced To Defend Himself — One Burglar Dead, One Lesson Learned

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — An elderly homeowner is forced to come to grips with taking the life of a 16-year-old man who broke into his home with the help of another 18-year-old. He initially refused to talk to the news after authorities found the body of the 16-year-old in the backyard. Both teenagers broke into the man’s house at around 3:05 a.m.

According to WXYZ Detroit, both teenagers violently broke in through the back of the home. Pictures released from the scene indicate they used an excessive amount of force in bashing down a part of the patio. This man likely had very little time to react to save his own life.

The hard part about these types of stories is that the homeowner did what he had to do in order to survive — but it may take awhile to fully acknowledge that. No one said it was easy defending your own life in your own home but it’s a responsibility none of us take lightly.

Police are still investigating the break-in. The second suspect escaped while the first one is obviously dead and can’t tell no tales. It will be extremely hard to identify or locate the second suspect.

In places like Detroit, there’s never a lack of violence. Whether it’s on the street, in the store, or right inside one’s own home, desperate times create desperate men — and some of those men either don’t care or don’t want to care about what they try to do next.

It’s our job to defend ourselves. There’s no politics involved. It’s a simple decision to not be a victim.

This story is still being investigated. Police are not likely to file charges until a complete investigation has taken place. We hope this man is safe until then and that other criminals in the area took the example of the previous two and don’t push for a second chance opportunity. It looks like one resident in that neighborhood of Detroit doesn’t want uninvited guests.

postheadericon Orlando Mass Shooting In Gay Club Leaves 50 Dead, 53 Injured

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — While final figures are still pending, it appears that fifty people have been killed and fifty three injured in an attack on a gay night club in Orlando, Florida, just before closing time around 2 a.m. on Sunday. To be clear, it’s the third attack perpetrated by an alleged Islamic terrorist who has claimed ISIS affiliation in the past two years. While media scramble to figure out how they’re going to spin this story, we’re going to cement the details as they’re presented.

Just before the attacks are alleged to have taken place, the shooter is confirmed to have called 911 and pledged his allegiance to ISIS prior to engaging in the attack, according to NBC News. This and other details have strongly pushed the FBI’s stance in designating this an act of domestic terrorism.

Florida police have confirmed that he does have several firearms-related permits including a concealed carry license and a security guard permit — both of which he actively used in his profession as a security guard.

And that’s where the details pretty much end. As we’ve stated in the past: we don’t care about the shooter. His personal ideology, philosophy, or whatever it was that drove him to prematurely ending the lives of several dozen people are really of little concern.

What is concerning is there appears to be an increase in these types of incidents in the last two years.

orlando-florida-gay-club-shooting-video

  • The first one we covered happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the target was a Marine Corps recruiting depot and reserve center.
  • The second was the San Bernardino shootings in a mental health facility, carried out by a man and his wife for supposed ideological reasons.

And now there’s this.

While anti-gun media will focus on what type of firearm the shooter used, perhaps we need to be discussing a bigger picture of how we can better protect ourselves from these sorts of attacks in the future.

The problem is that the government is not good at identifying these types of individuals prior to them executing their vile attacks. We’ve seen it in both domestic terrorism cases as well as just routine cases as well.

The government cannot protect you. You must make steps to protect yourself.

We cannot openly advocate for people to carry concealed while going out into situations that involve an altered state of thinking. That said, perhaps it’s time to have a designated buddy. We have designated drivers when we go out to drink, perhaps we need designated concealed carriers — guys and gals who don’t mind being sober and don’t mind staying equipped with a daily carry handgun.

Before anyone boo-hoos this idea: it’s worked in the past to stop a mass shooting in a bar. In 2008, one bar patron who was legally carrying a concealed handgun, successfully stopped a man who indiscriminately opened fire in a bar. These types of stories don’t fit the media narrative, so don’t expect people to be talking about it all the time — but a good guy or gal with a gun is truly the only defense for a bad guy with a gun. It’s inconvenient for the media narrative, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

You can wait for the FBI to identify the next domestic terrorist prior to that terrorist attacking a place that’s arguably a gun free zone… But if you’re holding your breath, that’ll be quite a feat.

The best solution is having a well armed, well trained populace that is knowledgeable and accountable with firearms. Our condolences go out to the families affected in Orlando and we pray for a speedy recovery to the injured.

postheadericon UPDATE: UCLA Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Gunman Believed Dead

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Two are reported dead after being shot to death by an unidentified assailant on the campus of UCLA in the Engineering IV building. Students are being evacuated while law enforcement clear the campus. With the campus located in downtown Los Angeles, police are expected to have a monumental task in locking down and securing the campus area from the rest of the metropolis.

According to CNN, Los Angeles Police Department has issued a “tactical alert” which will extend out their police force across the city.

via CNN

“So far we don’t know the nature of the shooting,” CNN senior law enforcement analyst Tom Fuentes said. “If it’s a personal thing between a couple of students, then it will be a local police matter. If by chance it turned into a terrorist situation, then the FBI would have primary justification over that.”

The two people who died on campus as a result of this shooting have not been identified as either students or faculty. It is unknown if the shooting suspect is still on campus. And factors revolving around actually finding out if the assailant is still on campus or if he has escaped are pretty hard to pin down in a major metropolitan university campus.

UPDATE: The person responsible for the gun-related deaths is believed to be dead. LAPD officers have recovered a firearm from the scene and have identified what they believe to be the person who perpetrated the attacks.

We can rule out law-abiding concealed carriers on the campus of UCLA as the UCLA campus is “protected” by California’s Gun Free School Zone Act which prohibits all legal carry of firearms onto the campuses of universities and schools across the state.

So the only person on campus with a gun has to be a bad guy because there’s nobody left. And let’s take a wild guess and say he probably didn’t stop to contemplate the gravity of all the laws he was about to break by carrying illegally onto the UCLA campus.

Students received an alert some time after the shooting occurred.

via CNN

“We got the alert and a woman said, ‘This is not a joke, everyone get to the back of the dining hall because we have to stay away from the windows,’” Freshman Teddi Mattox told CNN. “We’re crowded back here, we’ve been here for at least an hour and a half. People are crying, they’re nervous, they’re shaking.”

Students are still sheltering in place while law enforcement go from building to building.
Because of the nature of this case, it highlights the importance of allowing law abiding citizens with the legal ability to carry concealed to do so where ever possible.

Coming from the state that decided to require background checks for ammunition purchases, it’s probably time for the citizens of California to seriously consider who they have placed their legislative trust in.

postheadericon Gangland Shooting In Pittsburgh: At Least Five Dead And Multiple Injured

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA — A coordinated gangland-style shooting left four women and a man dead as investigators allege that the attack came from two separate directions and specifically targeted a late-night backyard barbecue. Pittsburgh police are being assisted by state investigators and forensics as they try to piece together the motive of this brutal assault.

via FOX News

“The murders were planned. They were calculated, brutal,” District Attorney Stephen Zappala said of the Wednesday nighttime shootings in Wilkinsburg.

Police were able to piece together that the attackers used heavier caliber 7.62 x 39mm rounds and reportedly “aimed high” (head shots). Both must have had some experience because they basically herded the entire group into a kill zone on the back porch where most of the victims died.

“It looks like right now they were all fleeing toward the back door of the residence when the second gunman fired from the side of the yard,” said Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County homicide unit. “They all seemed to get caught on the back porch.”

It really doesn’t matter if drugs were involved or not. They most likely were but that part really doesn’t matter. We’re dealing with more heavy hitters out there, these days. And these guys aren’t interested in taking prisoners or giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. Police allege that one of the shooters specifically targeted a few of the victims but the remainder were pretty much caught being “in the wrong place, at the wrong time.”

As concealed carriers, we have to realize that throughout our travels, we don’t always know the company that we break bread with. And as such, it is incumbent upon us to maintain a level head and a steady state of situational awareness. Never assume anything.

These shooters acted with a type of coordination and precision that is absolutely deadly in a real-life scenario. When people panic, they bunch up into a herd and they act like animals. In an active shooter environment, don’t bunch up and cluster. Look for cover and hopefully concealment. Return fire judiciously. Spraying and praying does not work. As the Marine Corps Rifleman’s creed loves to remind us,

“My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…

I love backyard barbecues as much as the next red-blooded American male. In an upcoming article, let’s discuss a few very simple pistol techniques that will give you the option of hopefully being able to get some hits down range when it really matters.
