postheadericon NY Hospital Shooter Used NY-Legal AR-15

By Nick Leghorn via The Truth About Guns

MSNBC is reporting that the shooting at the NY hospital this afternoon used an AR-15 that had been “modified” such that it didn’t have a pistol grip and used a magazine with only 10 round capacity. Those changes mean only one thing: the rifle was legal under the NY SAFE Act, the assault weapon ban, and legal in New York.

The city of New York (where the shooting took place) has additional restrictions on firearms, including licensing for rifles and shotguns within city limits. It also prohibits semi-auto rifles, making this firearm legal in the State of New York but banned in the City of New York.

The fact that a properly modified and neutered AR-15 was used in a “mass shooting” event such as this will no doubt raise questions. For those in the pro-gun camp the typical response will probably be to claim that this is proof that things like the NY SAFE act doesn’t work, and “assault weapons” bans are meaningless attempts to make guns look less scary without actually making them less deadly. Those in the anti-gun camp will no doubt claim that this is proof that the NY SAFE Act and assault weapons ban aren’t strong enough, and need additional regulations to promote safety.

Stay tuned for more information.

postheadericon Active Shooter at Texas Hospital turns up No Shooter and No Victims

HOUSTON, TEXAS — Multiple calls were made to 911 of an active shooter inside Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. When police arrived, they found no one with a gun and no victims, but they did find patients being evacuated and scared employees and visitors.

One caller gave a vague description of a man with a gun. There were reports that people heard gunshots on the 2nd floor of the hospital.

After police searched and cleared all 6 floors and the basement, the all-clear was given to return to the hospital. If there was an actual threat, it wasn’t there anymore.

ABC 7 Chicago provided a timeline of events from today’s scare:

TIMELINE OF EVENTS AT BEN TAUB HOSPITAL:

Around 2:00PM: Houston police received a report of a shooting in progress.

2:13PM: TWEET FROM HPD: We are responding to reports of shots fired at Ben Taub Hospital; SWAT and PIO enroute #hounews

2:48PM: TWEET FROM CHIEF ACEVEDO: At Ben Taub report of active shooter. No victims located. Active search continues. All patients and employees safe at this point.

We are awaiting word of any bullet holes or other evidence that would show shots actually being fired. The police presence was said to be felt quickly, and the evacuation was smooth.

postheadericon Woman Sends Home Invader To The Hospital With Precision Shot

TULSA, OKLAHOMA — A woman shot one home invader in the chest after him and his buddy burst in through the front door. That brought their robbery to a standstill and left neighbors wondering, “if it can happen to her, can it happen to us?”

That’s precisely the question we need to be asking ourselves.

As Oklahoma’s News on 6 reports, the two robbers hit the house on a Sunday night. Thankfully, this woman was ready and able to handle the situation.

via Oklahoma’s News on 6

“As they continued towards her, she drew the gun up and shot about three rounds at the suspects,” said Corporal RW Solomon.

They obviously thought this was going to be an easy job. Elsewise, why would they in the world think that an armed woman home alone wouldn’t open fire to defend her life and her property?

Wrong choice. One of them is in the hospital after his buddy evacuated him to a nearby medical center. He’s in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he’ll likely remain until he either gives up the ghost or comes back in a severely debilitated state.

There is no such thing as taking a round center mass and going on to have a good day.

One neighbor, new to the area, talked to the local news station about her feelings on the situation.

“I went to the QuikTrip and when I came back, there was just a bunch of people outside a few hours down over there,” said one neighbor to Oklahoma’s News on 6. “I just moved in. This is my second month living here so…a little nervous, yeah.”

Sounds like we’re about to get ourselves one more convert to the Church of Concealed Carry.

No matter where we move, no matter how good we think our neighborhood is, there’s always the potential for some dumb thugs to think your home is prime real estate for the taking. If you choose, you can go through life hoping “may the odds always be in your favor” or you can even the odds a bit by being prepared and carrying every day.
