postheadericon Man, Who Was Attacking Deputy, Is Shot By Armed Citizen

DAWSON COUNTY, GA — Our police do so much to keep us safe. Every day they put their lives on the line to make their communities peaceful.

It’s an awesome thing to get to see armed, responsible citizens get to return the favor every once in a while.

That’s exactly what happened with Deputy Randy Harkness, 52, and a bystander, when  thug decided to try to take advantage of the deputy’s generosity.

According to WSB-TV, officials stated that Harkness had just finished giving his soon-to-be attacker a ride to the gas station at which he was about to be attacked.

As he was getting ready to give the suspect money out of his own pocket, the man started beating the deputy about the head and face.

The gas station owner, Aseem Khan, was outraged.

“I’ve never heard anything like this and it should have never happened,” he said according to WSB-TV.

“(The deputy is) one of the nicest guys we all know here. He’s a jolly personality.”

“I was very worried he was going for the gun and thank God the police officer had his hand on the gun all the time,” he said later on.

A woman nearby saw the commotion, and wasn’t about to let the attacker subdue the poor deputy.

She shot at the attacker, forcing him to flee.

He ran across the street to a McDonald’s, where he assaulted another person and was then arrested.

The deputy, the suspect, and the woman he assaulted were all taken to the hospital.

“I truly believe that (the bystander is) a hero. I believe that she potentially saved this officer’s life. I don’t know how far this suspect would have went with the assault,” said Sheriff Jeff Johnson.

Concealed carry saves lives, people.

postheadericon Thug Shot In Both Legs By Homeowner During Burglary

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — When a homeowner encountered two thugs breaking into his own garage, he took the fight to them, and he did it quickly.

It resulted in two bullets, one in each leg, for one of the bad guys — pretty much putting an end to his budding cross-country career for the time being, at least.

As KOB 4 reports:

According to a criminal complaint, a burglary didn’t go as planned for Rodolfo Serrano-Urias. Things turned when he and friend broke into Warren Wild’s garage on Los Tomases Drive early Tuesday morning.

Police said Wild heard something and checked the garage. He had a .40 caliber Glock handgun. When he saw the men he fired one round to scare them away. That’s when the two took off.

But Serrano-Urias didn’t get far. According to the report, Wild shot Serrano-Urias in the back of the leg as he jumped over the fence in the backyard, but that still didn’t stop him. The suspect then took off down Sunset Avenue when the homeowner shot him in the other leg.

At least that’s what the suspect told police. According to the homeowner, he only fired at Serrano-Urias while he was in the backyard. He said he pulled the trigger to protect himself and his wife, who was also outside.

Police found Serrano-Urias in the middle of the street in front of the home with two gunshot wounds, one in each leg.

Once again, we see one of the worst practices in the firearms community: the warning shot.

Folks, if your firearm is out and you choose to fire, you need to be firing to neutralize a threat, not to make a point.

And, as this story bears out, this homeowner had to fire on at least one of the burglars anyway — it’s not worth it.

Firing a shot as a warning is rarely an aimed shot, and it’s often not a shot about which a shooter has thought that much. The odds of hitting something you really don’t want to go much higher.

Stay safe out there, folks.

postheadericon TRAGIC: Woman, Being Attacked By Dog, Is Accidentally Shot And Killed By Man Trying To Save Her

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — An armed citizen with nothing but good intentions was trying to stop a vicious dog attack on a woman in his neighborhood. While trying to save the woman, the man shot her while trying to stop the dog.

Local media reports;

Police said the woman was dragged into the street by the dog, which neighbors described as a stray of no specific breed. She was crying for help when a friend of hers who lives nearby heard her.

“Our resident, seeing this — he’s a CPL holder — came out of his home and engaged the dog,” Detroit police Capt. Darin Szilagy said. “He fired an unknown number of shots to try to stop the attack. Unfortunately, during that action, the woman was struck.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The dog, who is believed to have been injured, has not yet been located.

This is a tragic story of how things can go wrong when a firearm is introduced into a scenario. This man, with good intentions, wound up taking a life that he was trying his best to save.

What can we learn from this incident?

In situations like this, such as a woman and attacking dog in close proximity, it’s essential to make sure that a clear shot is had. If it’s not, the situation gets much more difficult. As a once in a lifetime event with so many variables, it’s tough to make the proper decision at the time. Firing a shot into the ground near the attack could be enough to catch the dog off guard long enough for the woman to escape, but it’s an unknown just like anything else.

I can’t say for sure, but I’d see myself doing the following:

  1. Running up to the attack and yelling loudly to try and distract the dog
  2. If that didn’t work, try to kick the dog off of the woman
  3. If that also didn’t work, the dog probably has a grip on the woman and I would try to get as close as possible to the dog to fire a shot that was as far away from the woman as possible

Again, it’s impossible to determine what would have worked and what wouldn’t have worked. To be in this man’s shoes is an impossible feat, as I imagine he is in a great deal of distress over what happened.

In the end, certain situations are impossible to control, and our hearts go out to the woman who was killed, and the man who is unintentionally responsible.

postheadericon Murder And Gun Charges Dropped Against Armed Homeowner Who Shot And Killed Intruder

CANADA — A man who shot and killed an intruder back in April of 2016 inside his home, had his murder and gun charges dropped. It seems that self-defense with a firearm prevails in our northern neighbor.

Local media reports;

Gilbert Budgell was charged following a home invasion at his Botwood residence. It’s alleged the two masked men entered the house and Budgell shot at one of the intruders.

A preliminary hearing was set to begin in Grand Falls-Windsor court today, but the charges against Budgell were instead dropped.

There were two masked men who entered, and only one left alive. It’s a sad day when an armed person is prosecuted for shooting someone who illegally entered their home while wearing masks.

It is also noted that the homeowner pleaded guilty to drug charges earlier this year. Whether or not the home invasion was over drugs is not known, but it seems that we still have a case of self-defense that’s justified.

postheadericon Man Caught After Police Say He Shot 6 People, 3 Fatally, In Maryland & Delaware Shootings

EDGEWOOD, MARYLAND — A man was taken into custody after a full day of searching for him after he allegedly shot and killed three people and injured another three. The incident occurred at a place where he had been employed for the last four months.

The Baltimore Sun reports;

Prince is believed to have shot five people about 9 a.m. Wednesday at a kitchen countertop company in an Edgewood business park where he had worked for the past four months, police said.

The five victims were all employees of the business, Advanced Granite Solutions. Prince also is alleged to have shot another person in Delaware later in the morning.

As the manhunt unfolded and police flooded the Interstate 95 corridor seeking the suspect, Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said: “there’s an individual out there on the loose who’s committed one of the most heinous acts in our county; we certainly consider him armed and dangerous.”

Gahler called the shooting “a targeted attack, limited to that business.”

People who knew the gunman said that he was raised by a nice family, and that he seemed to have just ‘snapped’. It’s a testament to how difficult it can be sometimes, to figure out who is a danger and who is not. The suspect did have a history with police, but many did not result in convictions. Regardless of whether or not he was raised right, this man still had some issues that were not happening behind the scenes.

We hope that the surviving victims of this horrible crime are able to recover fully and quickly, and our thoughts are with them and those whose lives were taken by a person with no regard for life.

postheadericon Home Invader Shot Multiple Times, Learns The Thug Life Sucks

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A man in his 40’s, which is too old to be breaking into homes, was quickly stopped when the homeowner opened fire as he tried to break in.

Local media reports;

A 44-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body at 10:54 p.m. as he was trying to break into a home in the 4500 block of South St. Lawrence, according to Chicago Police.

The homeowner told investigators that he opened fire after the man forced his way into the home with a crowbar, police said. The suspect then jumped into a vehicle, which fled to Mercy Hospital. The man was expected to be transferred in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

There isn’t a whole lot more to say about this story, except for this; What I don’t understand with thugs is the following:

  • They think they’re tough
  • When faced with an armed ‘victim’, they run
  • That makes them not so tough
  • Then, they want medical attention after being shot

A true thug would go home with his bullet wounds and pull the bullets out himself after chugging some hard liquor to dull the pain. That’s true thug life. But alas, these criminals are pansies and want proper medical attention so they don’t die. What kind of thug is that?

postheadericon Suspected Intruder Shot While Attempting Entry to Home, Confusion Emerges

HERNANDO, MS — A man was shot while attempting to enter a woman’s home in the middle of the night Friday, WREG reports.

Now, in the aftermath, there seems to be some confusion about just who the victim is.

According to WREG:

The incident happened in the 11000 block of Sunset Drive in Hernando. Deputies were called for a reported burglary.

According to the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department, the woman was home when the man tried to make his way inside around 2:30 a.m.

She grabbed a gun and opened fire, shooting through the door and hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to Baptist Desoto but was eventually rushed to the Regional Medical Center. He was listed as stable with a gunshot to the arm, authorities said. The homeowner was not injured.

The sheriff’s department said later Friday that the woman and man were acquainted. A news release referred to the man as a “victim.”

There are two ways this could go.

This could be a man who knew the resident and that relationship was not at all pleasant. His attempting to enter in the middle of the night would certainly seem to back that line of reasoning.

In that case, the woman was well within her rights, and the news release was miserably-phrased.

However, it could be the case that the two were acquainted, and the man tried to enter the house and the woman shot him not realizing who it was.

If that was the case, then the fault would lie firmly with the woman who failed to recognize who she was pointing a gun at.

Both are tragic scenarios, and either way this should serve as a strong reminder to us to always know exactly what we’re aiming at.

postheadericon Armed Teen Shot And Killed By His Armed Target During Attempted Robbery

DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA — A teen lost his life and one of his buddies is on the run after they picked the wrong person to try and rob at gunpoint. While a 44-year-old man was walking is dog, the duo pulled up and got out of the vehicle to rob the man at gunpoint.

AJC.com reports;

The 44-year-old man told investigators an SUV pulled next to him in the 5800 block of Cedar Croft Lane in Lithonia and two people got out of the vehicle.

“The suspects attempted to rob the victim with a handgun,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said Thursday. “The victim pulled his handgun and shot one of the suspects.”

The man called 911.

Officers responded about 10:30 p.m. and found the teen in the road suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police tried searching for the second suspect, but were unable to locate him.

A quick dog walk can turn bad, and it’s why we consistently promote carrying your firearm all the time. Some will use the excuse of ‘I’ll just be out for a few minutes’, but we all know how quickly things can happen in just a few seconds. When the bad guy finds you, it’s best to be prepared.

While this incident is still under investigation, charges are not likely for the concealed carrier, with police Lt. Rob Bryant saying “the evidence is leaning toward no charges at this time.”

postheadericon Intense Video Shows Officer Being Shot Point-Blank, Assailant Sentenced To 35 Years

Being a police officer is a job filled with unknowns, and you’ll see in this video just how quickly a good day can turn bad in an instant.

Officer Quincy Smith, of the Estill Police Department, was responding to a call about a suspicious person at a store. When he arrived, he was told that a man had been trying to steal groceries from customers. He was given a description of the man, and it didn’t take long to track him down.

The officer had a body camera, one that he had purchased himself, on his glasses. That camera captured everything that the officer was seeing, and helped tremendously when it came time to go to court.

His assailant, Malcolm Orr, 29, was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a weapon and sentenced to 35 years Wednesday following a two-day trial.

In the video above, you can see the interaction between Orr and Officer Smith, and how quickly things turn potentially deadly.

“Come here, man. Come here for a second,” Smith says.

As he gets closer to Orr, Smith notices that he has his hand in his pocket as if he’s carrying a weapon.

“Take your hands out your pocket!” Smith yells. “If you don’t stop, I’m gonna tase you. I’m not playing with you!”

Orr takes a few more steps before finally revealing the weapon — a 9mm handgun — and opening fire.

“Shots fired!” Smith screams, while running back to his vehicle.

“I am hit. I am hit in my neck someplace,” he says. “Dispatch, please tell my family I love them.”

Officer Smith was shot at 8 times, and Orr is just another thug who could care less about someone’s life. Luckily, Smith survived the injuries sustained, and was able to see Orr brought to justice for his crimes.

During the trial, it took jurors less than 45 minutes to come back with their guilty verdicts.

In my opinion, 35 years isn’t enough for the crimes committed. Orr was looking to kill, and should be locked up for the rest of his days.

In closing, I’d like to thank Officer Smith for his service to his community, and am happy that he survived this horrible experience. And, a thank you to all of those who serve to protect. They put their lives in danger each day, and are unfortunately faced with thugs such as Orr.
