postheadericon Microsoft and partners showcase cloud-enabled solutions for law enforcement at IACP 2016

SAN DIEGO — Oct. 17, 2016 — Monday at the 123rd annual International Association of Chiefs of Police conference and exposition in San Diego, Microsoft Corp. and its partners showcased innovative solutions that demonstrate how the cloud and modern Windows devices are transforming the way law enforcement engages with citizens, improves communities and enables more effective first response.

Microsoft has the largest compliance portfolio in the industry, and is committed to providing law enforcement, public safety and justice organizations with cloud services they can trust. To date, nearly 6 million users in all 50 states and federal government agencies use Microsoft Cloud for Government, which is specifically designed for use by U.S. government customers.

Compliance is a commitment, not a checkbox. As of today, Microsoft commits to the applicable Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) controls and has signed CJIS agreements in 23 states. Microsoft supports law enforcement agencies across the country to take advantage of Microsoft Azure Government for sensitive and mission-critical law enforcement needs, helping customers and partners increase security while reducing the cost of compliance. In addition, Microsoft is the first hyper-scale cloud provider to achieve ISO 22301 certification, which ensures that Microsoft Azure applications are backed by the highest government standards for business continuity and disaster preparedness.

“Government and law enforcement agencies across the United States are turning to Azure Government for the end-to-end cloud solution they can trust, for the security and compliance they require,” said Michael Donlan, vice president, U.S. state and local government for Microsoft. “Our cloud powers real-time, intelligence-led, first-response capabilities that enable law enforcement to do more, and achieve more, for the citizens they serve — today and into the future.”

Genetec Inc. uses Azure to provide real-time video streaming, cataloguing and storage for its cloud-based video surveillance-as-a-service (VSaaS), Stratocast. In January, the Detroit Police Department (DPD) launched a new program called Project Green Light, an effort to reduce violent crime in the city. Over an eight-month period, dozens of local businesses were equipped with Genetec’s high-resolution indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras, and video feeds managed by Genetec Stratocast were streamed live back to DPD headquarters. The data was stored using Azure. When a 911 call was received from a participating location, police inside the Real Time Crime Center could instantly pull video from the location’s cameras to begin evidence-gathering and send pertinent information, such as suspect description, to responding officers. In September, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced that Project Green Light has led to a 50 percent reduction in violent crime at stores, gas stations and other businesses that have installed the systems.

“The cloud-based technology has made it possible for us to instantly access surveillance video, which allows us to respond faster than ever before to robberies and potential violent crimes,” said Chief James Craig, Detroit Police Department. “In one situation we were able to catch a suspect in just two hours because we had that real-time access and strong, actionable intelligence when we arrived on the scene.”

Predictive policing solution provider PredPol chose Azure Government for its high level of compliance, security and exceptional support of international customers that require local datacenters. PredPol’s cloud-based solution uses a unique algorithm to predict places and times where crimes are most likely to occur, based on criminal behavior patterns and three key historical data points: type of crime, place of crime, and date and time of crime. PredPol maps are automatically generated for each police shift to help officers focus on areas where they have the best opportunities to prevent crimes from occurring. Officers in departments around the world are using PredPol to help prevent crime, in some cases reducing targeted crimes by double-digit percentages.

At IACP, PredPol announced that the Mountain View Police Department has deployed the solution on the Azure Government cloud platform. “We chose PredPol and the Azure Government cloud platform because of PredPol’s proven results and Microsoft’s long track record supporting secure solutions for law enforcement,” said Max Bosel, chief of police of the Mountain View Police Department in California. “We are confident that meeting future policy requirements will be seamless.”

Demonstrating at IACP what’s possible today, the Microsoft patrol car is equipped with industry partner solutions built on the intelligence-led first response platform, effectively making it a “mobile precinct.” First introduced at IACP 2015, the updated patrol car is outfitted to showcase Windows 10 software and devices, as well as new technologies focused on creating two-way, real-time communication between officers, records management, command staff and the public, using Azure. The patrol car includes solutions — all of which are available today — that help break down information silos in law enforcement, ensure compliance, and bring essential, actionable data into the hands of first responders in real time. This year, some of the technologies featured in the Microsoft patrol car include the following:

  • Drones for situational awareness. The Aeryon SkyRanger drone and AeryonLive, a web-based application, allow real-time video to be streamed from drone-mounted cameras, providing up-to-the-minute situational awareness both to officers on the ground and commanders located anywhere with internet access.
  • 360-degree video and analytics. The Getac Veretos Mobile Video System is an in-car video recording system used to capture all activities in and around the law enforcement vehicle as they occur, including up to 360-degree video coverage. With Veretos Cloud, Getac’s Evidence Management solution enables all-digital videos or images captured from in-car, body-worn or other police cameras to be uploaded to Azure Government for browsing and sharing via a web browser. This includes robust metadata management and analysis tools, providing command with a proactive approach to policing.
  • Robots for reconnaissance. A small, lightweight but powerful robot from ReconRobotics Inc. can be easily deployed and remotely controlled by patrol officers to provide real-time information to decision-makers.
  • Live video streaming. With technology from Dejero Labs Inc., live video from body-worn and in-car cameras, drones, and robots can be streamed to any authorized individual anywhere with an internet connection.
  • Body-worn video camera solutions. These solutions are typically utilized by law enforcement to record their interactions with the public or gather video evidence at crime scenes. Body-worn cameras in the patrol car include those created by Getac Veretos, Taser/AXON, VIEVU LLC and others.

These Microsoft and partner solutions, law enforcement stories, and more will be shared at IACP. Microsoft will present sessions titled, “Cloud Best Practices for Law Enforcement,” “Leveraging Modern Technology for Better Incident Response,” and, together with partners and law enforcement customers, “Transforming Communities Through Intelligence-Led Policing.” More details on Azure Government can be found by checking the facts at Microsoft in Government.

postheadericon Microsoft announces solutions to help businesses modernize in the digital world

BARCELONA, Spain — Nov. 30, 2015 Monday, at its annual Convergence EMEA conference, Microsoft Corp. introduced new innovations that will enable companies to succeed in a mobile-first, cloud-first world. Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela detailed new capabilities in Microsoft Office 365, including meetings and voice services in Skype for Business; announced the worldwide availability of its customer engagement solution, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016; and introduced Microsoft PowerApps, a new enterprise service empowering employees to create the apps they need, connect to business systems in a secure way and easily share their apps with coworkers.

In a new commissioned study of European business and IT leaders, Forrester Consulting found widespread recognition of the importance of digital transformation in their organizations, and the need to dramatically reshape their business around customer outcomes and desires. The innovations Microsoft announced Monday are aimed at helping businesses achieve this by igniting entirely new ways to collaborate and intelligently engage with customers. Through comprehensive first-party solutions such as Office 365 and Dynamics CRM, along with innovations that empower businesses to rapidly create new business apps and easily share them on any device, organizations can control and drive their own transformation.

“As businesses strive to keep up with the pace of change, they are looking to technology to drive digital transformation,” Capossela said. “Microsoft can help businesses achieve their transformations by empowering individuals and organizations with innovative solutions that unleash the productivity and potential of their workforce, spur entirely new ways of collaborating, and infuse intelligence into their systems and processes.”

New Office 365 enterprise capabilities

Today marks the general availability of new capabilities in Office 365 that modernize the enterprise across meetings and voice, intelligence, and security and privacy. These new services represent the single most significant release of new enterprise value in the history of Office 365:

  • A complete meeting and voice solution. With Skype Meeting Broadcast, Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) Conferencing, PSTN Calling and Cloud Private Branch Exchange, Office 365 customers now have one platform for calling, conferencing, video and sharing integrated with the Office applications they use every day.
  • Analytics and data visualization. Delve Analytics empowers individuals by providing rich, interactive dashboards that surface insights into how they spend their time and who they spend it with, so they can focus on the tasks and people that matter most.
  • Advanced security and compliance. Customer Lockbox offers customers full control over access to their data in Office 365 by giving them ultimate approval rights in the rare instances when a Microsoft engineer must request access to the service. Office 365 Advanced eDiscovery brings machine learning and text analytics that reduce the costs and risks inherent in managing large quantities of data for e-discovery.

Starting today, these capabilities along with Power BI and Advanced Threat Protection are available to customers in a new premium enterprise suite, Office 365 E5.

“We need a strong voice and meetings solution that meets the evolving needs of our business and our employees,” said Andre Garcia, assistant vice president of Global Infrastructure Services in IT at ABM. “Office 365 with Skype for Business is a game changer. It will give us the ability to consolidate on a single platform for all our productivity and voice services, reducing our costs and complexity while giving employees the flexibility they need to get their jobs done no matter where they are or what device they are using.”

Dynamics CRM 2016 now generally available

Beginning today, Dynamics CRM 2016 will be generally available for online and on-premises deployments. The most comprehensive CRM release to date, Dynamics CRM 2016 includes advancements in intelligence, mobility and service, with significant productivity enhancements to help businesses and customer-facing employees achieve more.

Data and intelligence are critical components of next-generation customer engagement, and Dynamics CRM 2016 delivers intelligent capabilities that surface insights to enable sales, marketing and service professionals to make quicker decisions and take action. Powered by Azure Machine Learning models, Dynamics CRM 2016 previews capabilities such as intelligent product recommendations for sales reps to personalize up-selling and recommended knowledge articles to more effectively resolve customer service issues.

This version of Dynamics CRM will preview industry-leading, full offline capabilities for mobile professionals on phones and tablets and across all major platforms. Dynamics CRM 2016 also provides the ability to create task-centered mobile apps to streamline the completion of customer-facing activities, like meeting follow-ups, and Cortana integration that surfaces data to drive proactive interaction and voice-driven CRM.

Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts is one such customer that knows the benefits firsthand. “To transform how you operate and to become a leader requires an internal transformation,” said Abdullatif Awadh, director of customer relationship marketing at Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts. “We found Microsoft Dynamics CRM had what we needed, and now we’re shifting our focus to ensure our campaigns are relevant to the guest, rather than the business, because it’s the guest who drives our business.”

Earlier this month Microsoft also announced the next version of its flagship ERP solution, Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Introduction of PowerApps

The way businesses work is changing, with employees more mobile than ever before. Consumer applications have evolved rapidly and employee expectations have followed suit. However, limited developer resources mean business apps haven’t kept pace with employee demand. In fact, Gartner predicts, “through 2017, the market demand for mobile app development services will grow at least five times faster than internal IT organization capacity to deliver them.”* To address this, today Microsoft introduced PowerApps, a new service that empowers employees to create the apps they need, connected to business systems in a secure way, and easily share their apps with coworkers. Available in preview, PowerApps helps businesses create employee-facing apps of all kinds, from the simplest app — like an employee survey — to long-lived, mission-critical apps that connect to line-of-business systems and cloud services and run on any device.

PowerApps benefits the entire organization:

  • Employees. Quickly create apps that work on any device, using the familiar Microsoft Office experience, with no coding required.
  • Professional developers. Expose data and services to empower employees to innovate on their own, and continue to create native Web and mobile apps and APIs with Azure App Service.
  • IT professionals. Manage organizational data and app sharing in a controlled and secure way.

PowerApps makes it easy to get an app up and running within minutes, with built-in data connections to SaaS services like Office 365, Dynamics, Salesforce, Dropbox and OneDrive in addition to on-premises business systems including SharePoint, SQL Server, Oracle databases, SAP and more. The service provides a familiar, Office-like experience for creating new business apps, templates to help get started quickly and a visual designer for automating workflows. These tools work in concert with enterprise-grade services for professional developers and IT professionals, so everyone can work together to unlock new business agility.

Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT” @microsoft) is the leading platform and productivity company for the mobile-first, cloud-first world, and its mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

CHICAGO — May 4, 2015 — Monday at its first-ever Ignite Conference, Microsoft Corp. announced a range of new products and services that help IT professionals lead their companies in the new era of enterprise computing, including the next generation of Windows management, Microsoft Office, hybrid cloud infrastructure and SQL Server.

“No business can succeed and scale without IT innovating and transforming,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Empowering IT professionals is a key part of Microsoft’s technology agenda spanning Windows 10, Office 365, Azure and other cloud technologies.”

Brad Anderson’s Official Microsoft Blog post about the company’s focus on IT professionals can be found here.

Speaking to more than 23,000 conference attendees, as well as thousands of online viewers, Nadella showcased how Microsoft is fueling IT pro innovation and success. He was joined on stage by José Ángel Sánchez, CEO of Real Madrid C.F., winner of the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Best Club of the 20th Century.

“Real Madrid is a club with a great tradition of winning, and our partnership with Microsoft for digital transformation will help us win both on and off the field,” Sanchez said. “The Microsoft cloud and its entire product portfolio is helping us change into a truly data-driven organization and to provide 450 million fans around the globe with exclusive, personalized content and services — before, during and after matches.”

Today’s announcements address multiple challenges and opportunities for IT professionals:

More personal computing

  • Windows Update for Business, introduced today, is a new management option for Windows 10 to always keep devices up to date with the latest security updates and Windows features. The new solution will help reduce management costs, provide control over update deployment, offer faster access to security updates and critical fixes, and deliver the latest innovation from Microsoft on an ongoing basis. The Windows Store for Business offers additional manageability, enabling company decision-makers to acquire trusted software or content for entire teams and companies.
  • System Center Configuration Manager for managing Windows 10, available today in technical preview, gives IT professionals expanded tools to deploy, update, manage and secure Windows 10, and will integrate with Windows Update for Business. In addition, next week, Microsoft will release service packs for existing Configuration Manager 2012 and 2012 R2 customers, as well as an update to Microsoft Intune for Windows 10 support.

Reinventing productivity

  • Office 2016, available in broad public preview today, brings in-app, real-time co-authoring to the rich Office desktop applications used by over 1 billion people worldwide. Real-time presence and the ability to see changes to text and formatting as they happen will help co-workers and teams stay on the same page as they create content.
  • Skype for Business broadcasting, introduced today, enables customers to broadcast meetings to up to 10,000 people. The service uses Azure Media Services for streaming audio, video and PowerPoint presentations, and offers built-in interoperability with Bing Pulse for sentiment tracking and Yammer for audience conversations. Extensibility enables third parties to add audience polling, formal Q&A and other functionality.
  • Organizational analytics in Office Delve, introduced and demonstrated today, is powered by the Office Graph, expanding upon personalized insights from Office Delve to provide organizational insights to individuals and teams from Office 365 data. A rich dashboard measures, tracks and identifies key trends such as engagement, reach and work-life balance across individuals’ interactions within their organization and with external teams.
  • SharePoint Server 2016, showcased today and in preview later this year, will deliver enhancements and new capabilities across new user experiences, compliance and reporting. The new version gives on-premises SharePoint customers access to new capabilities in the cloud through hybrid deployments with Office 365.
  • Exchange Server 2016, also demonstrated at Ignite and in preview later this year, delivers new features first delivered in Office 365, such as a new approach to document collaboration, faster and more intelligent search, improved eDiscovery, and developer extensibility for mail, calendar and contacts.

Intelligent cloud

  • Next-generation hybrid cloud. Introduced today and in preview this summer, Microsoft Azure Stack brings the Azure user experience and both infrastructure and platform-as-a-service capabilities into customers’ datacenters. With Azure Stack IT teams can easily blend enterprise applications with modern, distributed applications and services while maintaining centralized oversight. Built on the same core technology as Azure, Azure Stack extends Microsoft’s investments in secure, more flexible software-defined infrastructure. The next preview of Windows Server 2016 is available today, providing a premium platform for enterprise and cloud applications, with technologies such as Nano Server, a lightweight installation option. Available today, Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS) is a cloud-based solution that extends System Center capabilities for management across almost any hybrid cloud, including Azure, third-party clouds such as Amazon Web Services, Windows Server, Linux, VMware or OpenStack. OMS extends System Center 2016, which is also available in preview this week.
  • SQL Server 2016, in preview this summer, takes a major leap forward with a database and analytics platform that provides breakthrough performance for mission-critical applications and deeper insights on any data across on-premises and cloud. Key capabilities include enhanced in-memory technologies with real-time operational analytics, new security and encryption technologies, built-in advanced analytics with the R language, and mobile BI for on-premises data. The new Stretch Database capability is an industry first that allows for cost-effective access to historical data by dynamically stretching data to Microsoft Azure.
  • Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics (ATA), technology based on the recent acquisition of Aorato, is available in preview. ATA helps IT security professionals identify security breaches and threats, using behavioral analysis and machine learning to provide clear, actionable information.
  • Office 365 transparency and control enhancements, highlighted at Ignite, give customers enhanced visibility and security of their data residing within Office 365, including Customer Lockbox that provides customers with explicit approval rights for Microsoft interaction with their data. Office 365 is the only productivity service to provide this level of customer control.

postheadericon Microsoft mobility solutions transform electronic medical record pains into productivity and patient care gains

ORLANDO , Fla. Feb. 24 , 201 4 — The ability for clinicians to seamlessly collaborate and have mobile, instant and fully functional access to everything from electronic medical records (EMRs) to EKGs is critical in today’s changing world of healthcare. Monday, at the HIMSS14 Annual Conference and Exhibition, Microsoft Corp. showcased how a wide range of health organizations, including prominent partners like Epic and AirStrip, have improved care team collaboration and productivity, expanded mobility, and enhanced patient care through new Windows 8.1 devices and apps and Windows Embedded solutions. With the Windows 8.1 platform of clinical-grade devices, apps and services, including Microsoft Surface, mobile care teams can easily communicate with each other via a variety of methods, gain access to full-function EMRs from anywhere at any time, and use FDA-cleared clinician apps to deliver mobile-based care and guidance.

“The healthcare industry is in a major period of transformation. Finding mobile solutions that can improve clinician productivity, empower patients to improve their health, and address the need to complement existing EMR systems is critical,” said Michael Robinson, vice president, U.S. Health and Life Sciences, Microsoft. “The solutions and developments being announced today underscore how Microsoft technology can be used across various health settings to help clinicians practice patient-centered, team-based medicine and deliver higher-quality care to more people.”

Microsoft’s partners and customers unveiled an array of new enterprise solutions, apps and platforms to better integrate EMRs, improve productivity and engage patients in new ways by using a single mobile device or platform that runs all the programs and apps they need while on the move.

  • Epic’s Hyperspace 2014 app is now compatible for mobile Windows 8 tablets and ultrabooks on Internet Explorer 10 for EpicCare 2014 IU1 (Interim Update). This new compatibility allows clinicians to run Hyperspace directly on a Windows 8 tablet so they can use the full-functionality version of the application to support physicians in inpatient and outpatient settings to manage clinical and revenue cycle workflows.

  • At HIMSS, Allscripts will be demonstrating its Allscripts Wand for TouchWorks EHR, powered by Windows 8.1, which is currently in use at Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta. Allscripts Wand uses all of the navigation, voice and camera capabilities of the Windows 8.1 tablet to place orders, complete clinical documentation, take clinical photos and update all aspects of the patient’s chart. Because of the app’s ability to run simultaneously on a desktop and a mobile device, clinicians are able to experience the best of all worlds on Windows 8.1 mobile solutions.

  • UPMC and Caradigm announced the development of a mobile Windows 8.1 tablet-based platform using Surface Pro 2 devices that enables physicians to maintain patient and clinical workflow context while switching between different clinical apps at the point of care.

Patient e ngagement c linician p roductivity a pps and s olutions

  • AirStrip’s AirStrip ONE Cardiology app is a Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 mobile device cardiac care solution that recently became the first FDA-cleared clinician app for the Windows 8 platform. It allows doctors to evaluate EKGs quickly to determine if a patient suffered a heart attack and needs surgery. For the first time, the Windows 8.1 version of AirStrip ONE Cardiology makes an AirStrip app accessible on any form factor, including desktops, laptops, and wall-mounted or mobile workstations, not just mobile devices. Now, clinicians can access AirStrip ONE Cardiology for Windows from workstations in hospitals and outpatient clinics as well as from tablets and phones while outside the hospital.

  • Seattle Children’s Hospital specializes in meeting the unique physical, emotional and developmental needs of children from infancy through young adulthood. The hospital has purchased more than 250 Surface Pro devices and has standardized its executive team on Surface. Microsoft Surface Pro enables Seattle Children’s Hospital to provide clinicians with a modern user interface while also allowing adherence to HIPAA and other strict security regulations in healthcare. Microsoft leveraged the Microsoft Application Acceleration Program (MAAP) and partnered with a business partner, VitalHub, on the development of a modern touch application. The VitalHub application, combined with Microsoft Surface Pro, allows Seattle Children’s staff to view and have basic levels of simple order entry through a touch-enabled interface — improving the experience of both physician and patient.

  • Aegis Living has equipped staff across its 30 senior living communities with Surface tablets to provide the highest level of resident care and the most productive medication administration to their residents. By using Surface devices, Aegis staff have eliminated paper-based medication records and manual prescription auditing, with an expected savings of more than 11,000 hours each year previously spent auditing prescription records. In addition, staff have easier access to residents’ medical records and prescriptions through a Web-based app, have increased resident safety by eliminating manual data entry, and have more secure, mobile access to resident data whether they are at a resident’s bedside or moving from one resident’s room to another.

  • Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP) is the nation’s oldest community-based accrediting body, with more than 5,000 providers and 10,000 sites currently accredited and 85 field auditors continuously working to hold agencies accountable for patient care. CHAP is now using Surface Pro devices to support its new CHAP LinQ accreditation software and provide an important tool for site visitors to observe, interview and document information seamlessly. Unique Surface Pro features, such as the kickstand and digitized pen, work in conjunction with the CHAP LinQ software to enable CHAP’s field auditors to capture more accurate and systematic documentation and ultimately provide the highest quality of home- and community-based care.

  • NavyMarine Corps Relief Society has implemented a Windows 8-based application on Surface devices dedicated to helping its visiting nurses provide better home-health patient care experiences for new mothers associated with the Navy-Marine Corps. The application — developed by Microsoft Consulting Services — enables visiting nurses and other mobile caregivers to meet with new mothers and their babies to assess the care they are receiving and serve as their resource and emotional support system. NMCRS’s 55 visiting nurses scattered around the globe are each provided with a Surface tablet so they can use the application to access patient EMRs in near-real time, facilitate faster communication with other clinicians and physicians, and easily answer health-related questions during visits.

  • Billings Clinic, a 285-bed hospital in Billings, Mont., is the first hospital to partner with Omnicell Inc. to implement remote cabinet functionality. By integrating Omnicell’s automated dispensing cabinets with Windows Embedded technology and a leading EMR system, Billings Clinic can streamline medication administration processes and ensure that pharmacists deliver the right medications to patients more safely and efficiently.

“Privacy concerns are holding educators back from making the most of modern technology and preparing students to succeed in today’s workplace. At the same time, many solutions being used in the classroom are unintentionally putting student data at risk,” said Anthony Salcito, vice president, Worldwide Education, Microsoft. “The private sector has a responsibility to give educators the tools and resources that inspire real learning and have a real impact, while ensuring privacy isn’t a barrier to bringing new and innovative technologies into the classroom. This is why Microsoft is committed to taking every measure it can to ensure student information remains safe around the world. We will not, under any circumstance, mine students’ data.”

Microsoft technology is used in 98 percent of schools worldwide. The company’s end-to-end education solutions take the risk out of deploying the latest technologies and solve educators’ most pressing challenges across the following key areas:

Productivity and creativity. Microsoft Office 365 Education, an enterprise-quality communication and collaboration tool available in the cloud, is currently used by 110 million students, faculty and staff. This always-on cloud service guarantees that student data will never be mined for advertising. Student Advantage, available for free through qualifying institutions, includes the entire Office suite and more than 4 million students are already getting Office 365 Professional Plus from their schools since it was launched in December 2013. Microsoft Office has also proved valuable to students; a recent IDC study found Microsoft Office proficiency is among the top 20 skills required for high-growth/high-salary occupations.

Safer, more private search. Bing for Schools ensures students don’t see search ads when using Bing and also enhances their privacy by preventing the use of data to create ad profiles — all with no compromise on the exceptional search experience delivered. No other major search engine can make the same promise.

Management. Windows Intune is a cloud service that allows school IT administrators to manage Windows, Windows Phone, Android and iOS devices connected to their network over the Web, eliminating the need to own each device or to use onsite servers.

Professional development. Microsoft offers resources to train teachers on new technology, including the Partners in Learning Network that reaches nearly 1 million educators worldwide and includes online professional development, how-to tutorials, and learning activities created by teachers for teachers.

Technology training. The Microsoft IT Academy provides industry-leading technology skills to more than 8.5 million teachers and students in 130 countries to help bridge the technology skills gap. In addition, Microsoft has helped educators around the world successfully incorporate technology into the classroom to enhance the learning experience for their students through programs such as Teaching With Technology.

Device choice. Microsoft works with its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners to bring better choice and quality and more affordable devices powered by Microsoft software and services to market for educators and students around the world.

YouthSpark Initiative. Microsoft’s focus on privacy in education is part of its overall commitment to empowering youth through opportunities for education, employment and entrepreneurship.

“We’ve chosen Microsoft because the company provides an end-to-end solution that meets all our needs — innovative and secured devices, best-in-class productivity, and collaboration apps and comprehensive management capabilities. In addition, the company provides the training and resources our educators need to ensure that our technology investments are successful,” said Clayton Carnes, school leader, Hermit Park State School in Australia. “Microsoft’s unwavering commitment to student privacy is also extremely important to us because we can rest assured that our students’ data isn’t being mined for advertising and marketing purposes. This commitment really sets Microsoft apart in the market.”

Other news announced today included the following:

One of the first collaborations in the U.S. between the two global companies will combine Pearson’s Common Core system of courses with the groundbreaking capabilities of the Windows 8 touchscreen environment.

• Interactive education technology company Promethean World plc has committed to developing innovative Windows 8 apps and Office 365 integration for its platform ClassFlow, a cloud-based, classroom tool that enables teachers to create lesson plans, connect and deliver interactive content across multiple devices, and assess student understanding.
