postheadericon Neighbor Fatally Shoots Suspect After Seeing Man Being Beaten And Robbed

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — An alert neighbor witnessed a man in a struggle with three other men who were holding him at gunpoint. He immediately grabbed his gun and made the decision to intervene.

Local news reports;

Investigators said Shane William Standard, 25, Tracie Lewis Mayfield, 32, and Jeffrey Eugene Bradley, 31, went to a home, held a man at gunpoint inside the home and demanded money.

Investigators said a neighbor saw the struggle, grabbed a gun and fired a shot, hitting Bradley at least once. He died at the hospital, Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill said.

The other two thugs were both both charged with first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

There is no mention of the condition of the man held at gunpoint, but we hope that he is alright and uninjured.

I’ve said it a hundred times; the thug life never pays off in the end. The result here is two people in jail, hopefully for a long time, and their bff dying at the hospital.

Being a criminal has it’s hazards, just like any other career or hobby. In this case, one of them found out the most dangerous hazard of them all; the armed citizen willing to take a life to defend another.

postheadericon Woman Shoots Larceny Suspect After He Tries To Hide In Her Office Building While Running From Cops

KNIGHTDALE, NC — A man was shot after allegedly stealing from a Walmart and trying to make a getaway in a building that housed multiple businesses.

He ran into a lone woman, and he was shot. Although someone committing larceny rarely escalates things to where a shooting is justified, this may just prove the exception.

As WRAL reports:

Authorities were called to a Walmart at 7106 Knightdale Boulevard on for a reported larceny at about 6 p.m. when the suspect fled from the store on foot.

Officers chased the man, identified as Deandre Branch, 24, of Clayton, into an office building at 7048 Knightdale Boulevard. Once there, Branch forced his way inside the two-story building, which houses multiple businesses, and encountered a lone employee inside the building. Police said they are unsure what type of exchange took place between Branch and the woman, but he sustained a single gunshot wound as a result of the encounter.

“The suspect encountered a lone female that was working inside the building. The suspect, in the course of that encounter, was shot,” said Knightale Police Chief Lawrence Capps. Capps said officers were not close enough to Branch at the time of the shooting to witness the encounter.

Branch was taken to WakeMed for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Police said that the woman has been cooperative with the investigation, but her name is being withheld.

It’s hard to know what to do when a criminal — but not necessarily a deadly threat — comes barreling at you.

It’s happened to me twice, and both times while I was under the age to be carrying concealed.

I wasn’t touched once, and I got knocked flat on my back the second time.

You never know what a cornered thief might do.

postheadericon Woman Beats Robbery Suspect Senseless With His Own Shotgun

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK — If you’ve ever wanted to see the face of defeat, here it is in all it’s glory.

During an attempted armed robbery of a thrift store on Long Island, suspect Ronald J. Kelly didn’t quite know what he was getting himself into.

From nypost.com;

Ronald J. Kelly walked into Island Thrift store carrying the firearm around 8:25 p.m. Saturday, and demanded the store manager empty the til, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The woman grabbed the gun, and with the help of two other employees managed to wrestle him to the ground.

“She grabbed the gun and started struggling with the guy,” store manager Rich Rodriguez told The Post. “The two male employees saw what was going on and started punching the guy in the face. She grabbed the shotgun and started hitting him in the face with the butt of the gun.”

The employees kept Kelly pinned to the floor until police arrived.

None of the employees were injured, however Kelly was pretty banged up during the incident. He had it coming, no doubt. It’s a good day when citizens are able to fend off the bad guys.

While Long Island isn’t NYC, it’s still a relatively difficult place to obtain a concealed carry permit. But hopefully with stories like these, and the continued need to defend, it’ll become more of a reality for many others in gun control-heavy states.

postheadericon Church Burglary Gone Wrong, Suspect Shot By Armed Churchgoer

DOTHAN, AL — A man is dead after deciding to take his life into his own hands, attempting to rob the occupants of a Baptist church in Alabama.

Dothan First reports that 26-year-old Steffon Tolver looked to score some easy money by robbing people on church grounds.

“He completed one robbery in which he received roughly $ 50 dollars and proceeded to try to rob someone else and the second person had a handgun and shot the suspect while he was in his office,” said police LT. Brian Smith according to Dothan First.

It was 10:30 p.m. on a Sunday. Workers were there prepping for the next week.

“They were getting ready to go on a youth trip and they were working late to get ready for the trip in the morning,” Smith said.

Some were confused as to why a church member had a gun on church grounds. However, Smith backs them.

“In a church or not wherever you are you have the chance to defend yourself in your home, you have certain additional rights,” he said.

OK, there are two things to remember here.

I have long told my friends — the most important place to be responsibly-armed is in a church, and that is a fact. Folks think of churches as places of peace — as well they should be. But that makes them appealing to bad guys.

Religious buildings have targets on their backs — regardless of faith. There is someone, somewhere, who does not want that faith to exist. So carry. You will be glad that you did.

Second — if you’re a bad guy — have a speck of ethics and try not to go robbing a church. For your sake, if not ours.

postheadericon Woman Attacked While Getting Out Of Car, Shoots Suspect After Her Gun Falls Out Of Her Bag

MIDTOWN, TN — A woman was attacked in the middle of the night outside her apartment, and during the course of the scuffle, her firearm fell out of her bag, putting her in real danger.

As The Commercial Appeal reports:

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of N. McLean near Poplar, police said.

A woman told police that when she got out of her car at her apartment a man ran toward her, grabbed her and tried to steal her laptop bag. The woman and man struggled over the bag and she screamed, waking up a neighbor who ran out to help, police said. The three struggled and fell to the ground. The woman’s gun, a Ruger 9mm, fell out of her bag during the fight and that’s when police said the suspect was shot during the incident.

It was unclear in the police report who fired the gun during the struggle. A third witness told police she heard the suspect say “I’m going to shoot” and saw the muzzle of the gun flash. The witness reported hearing two shots and called police. The man accused in the attempted robbery was identified in a police report as Kerry Petty. He was found on the ground with a gunshot wound when police arrived.

Petty has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal attempted felony, police said.

There are a couple things to discuss, here. First, I, for one, would really like to know exactly which Ruger 9mm we’re talking about here. In news stories, they rarely cover the firearms in play. Such things are good to keep an eye on for other concealed carriers.

I hope it wasn’t a Blackhawk with a conversion cylinder.

But on a much more serious note — it’s extremely important to carry your defensive tool on the body when at all possible for this exact reason. This woman lost control of her gun the same moment the woman lost control of the thing that the robber was going for.

That’s not a good situation.

It’s not always possible, but carry on-body when you can.

postheadericon [CCW IN ACTION] Armed Citizen Draws Gun And Fires At Armed Robbery Suspect

COLUMBIA, MO — One armed robbery suspect ended up losing his chance at easy money and entered the fight of his life when the man he chose to rob was a concealed carrier.

Police report that they received calls of people hearing gunshots at about 11:30 p.m. July 8, according to KMIZ.

When they came to investigate, they found a 27-year-old male victim who claimed that he had been approached by a man, armed with a handgun, completely dressed in black.

The robber demanded the victim’s money. The victim responded by producing his own handgun and opening fire.

The robber ran for it.

No injuries were reported, although there was one car that was reportedly damaged by a bullet fired by the victim in self-defense.

The thug was still on the run as of the latest report by KMIZ.

This brings up an interesting point that is often discussed, but not as commonly observed.

When you’re scared, you’re crap at aiming.

I have not been in an altercation wherein I was forced to open fire an another person. At least not yet, and I pray that streak continues.

I have, however, been in a situation where I was forced to draw on an animal threat — a very different situation, but even that is enough to get the heart pumping and make folks shaky.

It’s a reminder to all of us — don’t shoot until you know what you’re going to hit, and try to keep it cool. Staying cool and maintaining good judgment coupled with accurate shooting is the best way to navigated a deadly situation.

How do you give yourself the best odds?

Practice, practice, practice. Go hit the range when you get a chance. It’s a blast (pun not intended) and you just might be thankful you did later.

postheadericon Armed Citizen Captures Robbery Suspect

TULSA, OK — In what could very well have been a clean robbery for two suspects at the Cash America Pawn in Tulsa, Oklahoma, June 1, one inconvenient little law-abiding citizen completely ruined their day.

KRMG reports that two thugs entered the pawn shop and used a hammer to rob the place.

An armed citizen intervened, fired two shots, and subdued one of the two suspects, later identified as Robert Johnson.

The other one got away, however, with both guns and jewelry.

But let’s take a step backward for a moment. The thugs used a hammer, as KRMG reports. A hammer, to rob a place that sells guns.

KRMG reports that an “armed citizen” subdued the suspect that was captured while the other one got away with both jewelry and guns, which tells us that the citizen who stepped up to prevent the robbery was possibly not an employee.

There very well may be a policy that prevents them from being armed, but folks — whenever you can, carry. At work, at home, in the car… you get the picture.

There’s no way to know what’s coming, and although the armed citizen in this situation did well for himself, a bad guy got away.

postheadericon CCW IN ACTION: Attempted Carjacking Suspect Is Shot By Armed Citizen, In The Groin

CHICAGO, IL — A legally and responsibly-armed concealed carrier shot one of two men who attempted to gang up on him and steal his car, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Oddly enough — and an unfortunate testament to just how things are in Chicago — this attempted carjacking occurred in broad daylight.

As the Chicago Tribune reports:

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., the victim was standing outside his vehicle in the 5300 block of South Pulaski Road when two men approached and demanded his car keys, police said.

Instead of handing over his keys, the victim shot one of the men in the groin area. The other man took off, but he was caught a short time later, police said.”

The man shot in the groin was run to the hospital where he appears to be in good condition. He has not been identified other than the revelation that he is 25 years of age.

The other attacker was arrested, but nothing has been identified about that individual as of yet, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police did report that a “weapon” was recovered from the scene.

Folks, it just does not matter where you are.

You could be in a gas station bathroom, in you home, inside or outside of your car — you never know when you might need your carry gun.

So for the love of all that’s good, please don’t leave your firearm at home.

postheadericon Occupant In Apartment Forced To Fight For Gun After Suspect Forces Entry Into Home

CLEVELAND, OHIO — While a young woman was trying to open the door to her apartment, an armed robber snuck up behind her. Once the door was opened, he plunged the gun into her backside and forced her to allow him entry. Unarmed and fearing for her own life, she complied and he quickly moved through the apartment, room by room, until he found another man inside. This man, though, wasn’t going to be a victim.

According to FOX News 8 Cleveland, the 26-year-old occupant grappled with the man until he gained control of the gun. He then discharged the pistol multiple times into the armed robber, critically wounding him.

After defending himself and neutralizing the robbery suspect, he got on the phone with police. They arrived and took his statement but by the time they made it there, the suspect was dead.

This is one of those heart-pounding situations we see play out. An armed robber gains entry by forcing a gun on an occupant and then has freedom of movement to do what he wants. Anyone who resists him is fair game for his own violent means.

When a household isn’t armed, this is an unfortunate possibility.

On a sidenote, seems like a lot of violent activity happening in Cleveland. Cleveland isn’t a place I put up alongside Baltimore and Chicago but it definitely sees its share of gang-related violent crime. It seems like more and more citizens are getting caught in the middle.

That’s nothing new. Statistics play down the significance of a good guy with a gun because most of the violent statistics captured are just about whether or not a gun was used. There’s little to no mention of whether or not the person using the gun was defending his life or protecting his family — as the City of Indianapolis recently discovered when it was reviewing its own crime-related statistics.

The average person is complacent with violent crime. The average person doesn’t believe he or she will be the victim of a violent crime and doesn’t take active preventative measures to protect himself, his home, and his family. These scenarios are relegated to the world of television crime fiction and movies.

You’re no longer average because a violent criminal found you. Now you’re an exceptional statistic. Which column that data goes under — shot and killed, murdered, raped, or assaulted — is all left up to chance when you don’t have a gun.

Responsible concealed carry and gun ownership is easy given a little attention and patience. The life you save may be your own.

postheadericon Armed Citizen Stabbed In Neck And Head By Teen, Then Shot At Suspect. The Rest Of The Story Will Piss You Off.

SALISBURY, NORTH CAROLINA — A gun owner confronted a teenager attempting to break into his car outside his apartment. The teenager turned around and stabbed the man repeatedly in the neck, head, and back before the gun owner drew his handgun and shot at the teenager.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Tyler Aaimer Spencer Nichols, 17, turned himself in and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, four counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and three counts of larceny.

That teen was held on $ 25,000 bail. That’s the criminal equivalent of a slap on the wrist, and that’s the “piss you off” part. For such a crime, a higher bail amount would seem reasonable. No?

Thankfully, the victim was able to get treatment and was released from the hospital.

This is a case of a gun owner trying to do the right thing and stop a teenager from breaking into his property. Unfortunately, he was dealing with a violent thug that wouldn’t hesitate to stab a stranger in the neck. This thug will be a welcome addition to a juvenile correction facility, no doubt.

As for the man, he nearly lost his life. This could have ended much worse considering the extent of injuries he sustained.

A defensive mindset is needed at all times. Never assume just because the person doing the crime is a minor that he will be less prone to using violence. If anything, he may feel he has more to prove.

If you’re not comfortable defending yourself with a gun, you need to hold back and wait for police. It’s okay. In fact, in a lot of cases, it’s probably best for the gun owner to stay back and let police handle it. Rushing into that sort of situation will inevitably put you at greater risk. And it’s with that risk you may be forced to defend yourself against someone who has no compunction about taking your life.

A defensive mindset. Every gun owner needs to have it. Protect yourself, protect your family, don’t put yourself into a risky situation you don’t need to be in.
