postheadericon 2 Thugs Make Run at Auto Parts Store, One Survives

ROSELAWN OH — When a pair of thugs attempted to rob an O’Reilly Auto Parts store, they weren’t counting on someone inside being armed.

And now, one of them is dead.

As FOX 19 reports:

Police said two armed suspects entered a Roselawn O’Reilly Auto Parts around 8:30 p.m.

One of the suspects was shot by a person already inside, they said. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that person, 18-year-old James Hutsell, Jr., in the parking lot.

Fire officials were unable to revive him. Police have not released many details about who the shooter was, or the sequence of events that led up to the shooting.

It is not clear whether or not that armed citizen was an employee or a passerby, or a concealed carrier or not.

Although it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not the citizen was an employee or not, I’d bet dollars to donuts that they are a concealed carrier.

Regardless of what he was, however, I am sure everyone else in the store is grateful he or she was there at the right place at the right time.

Score one for the good guys.

Regardless of the background of the shooter, it’s a powerful reminder:

1. Stay armed when you’re at work, if at all possible.

2. When you’re running errands, stay armed.

In fact, you might want to stay armed whenever conveniently possible — just a thought.

postheadericon Two Thugs In NJ Target Off-Duty Cop For Robbery, Both Lose Their Lives

NEWARK, N.J. — When a pair of thugs attempted to rob a couple of folks in Newark, New Jersey, they were looking for a quick buck.

What they got were funeral arrangements.

As NJ.com reports:

At about 11:30 p.m., the officer was in the 100 block of South 6th Street in Newark dropping off an acquaintance and two children when he was approached by the two armed men, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino said in a release Monday.

One of the men apparently tried to shoot at the officer but his gun jammed, the prosecutor’s office said.

The officer shot both men — identified as Dante Holden, 19, of and Tymyr Wilson, 21, both of East Orange — and both were pronounced dead at the scene, Laurino said. Officials declined to identify the officer involved. A spokeswoman for Jersey City Monday issued a statement on the incident.

“We are thankful that our detective, who was a victim of an attempted armed robbery, is OK and want to thank the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor for their assistance in this ongoing investigation,” said city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill.

She declined to answer any additional questions about the officer.

Yeah, score two for the good guys.

When a robber picks a victim, they really have no idea who they’re targeting, just like we don’t know who they are until they make that fateful choice.

These two made the worst, dumbest mistake of their lives.

postheadericon Craigslist Deal Goes South, Two Armed Thugs No Match For This Armed Citizen

CYPRESS, TX — A pair of thugs who attempted an armed robbery against a man trying to sell a phone on Craigslist have been apprehended after their attempt at robbery went wrong, all thanks to an armed citizen.

As The Woodlands Patch reports:

Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constables were called to the 23900 block of Creek Ridge Drive in after residents in the area reported hearing gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found a black man, identified as Derek Cooper with two gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

Investigators learned that the person who shot Cooper was trying to sell him a cellphone he’d advertised on Craigslist. The victim met with Cooper and a juvenile at that location for the exchange of the phone for money, when suddenly the juvenile pointed a handgun at the complainant and demanded all his money.

The victim handed over the phone and money, and then the juvenile and Cooper demanded all he had in his vehicle. The man told investigators he went to his car, grabbed his own handgun and fired two rounds, hitting Cooper twice.

The juvenile reported made a run for it, but was quickly apprehended by police officers in the area. He was arrested, charged with robbery, and was sent to a juvenile detention center.

Cooper was also charged with robbery, but he had a trip to the hospital to make first, before he could go to jail.

That’s the last deal these two will make for some time.

postheadericon Gas Station Employee Shoots At Smash-And-Grab Thugs

CLEVELAND, OH — A man working at a 24-hour gas station in Cleveland, Ohio, had the shock of his life when a group of thugs attempted a smash-and-grab at the ATM in the gas station.

As Cleveland.com reports:

The incident happened about 3:30 a.m. Thursday at the Marathon gas station on Lorain Avenue at Fulton Place.

Employee, Ala Allan, 31, said his brother, Ahmed Allan, was working at their father’s gas station when two vans pulled into the parking lot.

One van tried twice to smash through the front doors and into the ATM, Allan said. The impact caused the door to splinter.

Ahmed Allan is a conceal-carry permit holder, according to his brother. He grabbed his gun and confronted the suspects.

Ala Allan said his brother fired four shots at the two men. One man ran away and the other drove away in the other van, Allan said.

Police have not said if they have made any arrests.”

Although having a van smash into your place of work is extremely unlikely to happen for most of us (or at least, I hope so), there are still some extremely valuable lessons to be learned from Ahmed Allan.

1. This guy was carrying at work.

I know this is not an option for everyone, but if you can do it, do it. Every day.

2. Never let at attack shock you.

In an ideal world, attacks wouldn’t surprise us either, but that just isn’t a realistic expectation. But if, say, a van comes careening into your store, don’t panic, get thinking.

postheadericon Mother And Son Security Team Fatally Shoot Two Thugs After They Come At Them With Guns Drawn

BEECH GROVE, INDIANA — Two armed suspects were fatally shot outside a bar and eatery in Beech Grove after they attempted to rob a mother and son security team patrolling outside the area.

According to a statement by Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley, one of the suspects was identified as 29-year-old Seth A. Easley and the other was a 14-year-old boy who has not been identified at this time.

via WTHR News 13

“The child demanded everything you have from both security guards, including a cell phone that was laying on the lap of one of the security guards,” Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley said.

The security team were in a vehicle outside the eatery. The time of the event was around 1 o’clock in the morning. After the 14-year-old and 29-year-old criminals were seen roaming around the entrance of the establishment, security rolled up. One of the security members began calling 911 when the duo were approached by the 14-year-old. The teenager brandished his gun and demanded their possessions. The security team fought back, engaging both suspects with their handguns.

While the Beech Grove mayor recalls this event as a tragedy, it highlights the reality of crime in America. The bad guy may be little more than a kid with a chip on his shoulder, a stolen gun, and something to prove.

In either case, both the boy and his gang handler are dead.

We’d love if the story ended with something else less absolute than death but the sobering truth is that if that boy wanted to live in the first place, he shouldn’t have shoved a gun in someone’s face.

Security guards and store clerks — these are the most common recipients of gang violence because they’re visible and often in places that are poorly protected. Surprise, surprise, these are also the two groups of people that are investing heavily in their own personal protection.

Concealed carriers sometimes get caught in this mess, too. A lot of gangs send young boys off to conduct armed robberies and malicious criminal activities as a means to “prove their worth”. Much like child soldiers are employed in extremely poor countries, we’re now seeing this tactic brought to America.

As a gun owner, it only means one thing: if you’re not carrying everywhere you go, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

I don’t pretend for a second that some 14-year-old boy understands the full ramifications for his actions if he’s stupid enough to point a gun at an armed security guard.

Does this kid — who never took a gun safety class in his life — understand what happens if he applies just a tad more pressure to the trigger? How much does it take for a loaded gun to go bang?

I carry concealed every single day and I suggest my reading audience do the same. I train with my concealed carry gun because I understand precisely how much pressure it takes to make a handgun fire. The answer is not much. And if it’s a teenager pointing a gun at me and he’s nervous enough, I know my life is as good as gone unless I plan on defending myself.

Tough truths for tough times.

postheadericon “You Just Never Know Who’s Packing Heat”: Senior Citizen Defends Himself And Wife Against Two Thugs On Philly Street

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — “I think the moral of the story is you just never know who’s packing heat,” said Anthony Conte, who spoke with reporters after an incident involving two young males and an elderly couple.

The incident happened Tuesday night while an elderly man and his wife were walking down the street, on their way back home after work. What happened next was unprovoked, and something they never thought would happen.

They told police two men passed them. One of those men said to the husband, “What are you looking at?” then punched him, threw him to the ground and continued assaulting him.

Then they turned their attention to the wife, in her 50s, punching and knocking her down as well.

When the fists started flying, the elderly man, known in the neighborhood as a long-time resident and goes by ‘Old Man Sal’ according to locals, warned the young men that he had a firearm.

“They attack him. They attacked his wife. He begged to stop. Him and his wife pulled away. They kept on coming,” said Kenneth Young. “He explained he has a firearm. They said they don’t care. They punched him in the face.”

Leaving no other options, Old Man Sal drew his .45 caliber pistol and fired shots at the young men, hitting one in the stomach and the other in the shoulder near his neck.

Surveillance video shows the young men walking across the street, injured, and eventually finding a bench for them to relax on… and take in the severity of their wounds. Police found them and took them both to the hospital. The suspects are said to be in stable condition.

In the image above, you can see the suspect hunched over while sitting down, likely feeling something worse than heartburn in his abdomen. His accomplice, standing up, is seen holding his hand on his shoulder wound. Both injuries are courtesy of an elderly man who decided to carry a firearm in order to keep himself and his wife from being easy targets.

Police are calling this a case of self-defense.

An attorney for the couple says that the man suffered extensive damage to his face and eye.

“This was a matter of life or death. If he didn’t do what he did, and he didn’t have the training to do it. I think we would be at a funeral right now. It’s that bad,” Young said.

When good, honest people are able to defend themselves against crime, it’s a good day. I wish the couple a quick and full recovery, and hope for swift justice against their young attackers.
