postheadericon [BREAKING] Vehicle Smashes Into Students At Ohio State University, Violent Spree Ensues — Stopped By A Police Officer With A Gun

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Nine injured and one dead after a man drove a vehicle into students on the campus of Ohio State University. He then allegedly got out and proceeded to stab several bystanders before being shot to death by a police officer.

The attack began at approximately 9:52 p.m. when a driver drove his vehicle onto the courtyard outside the materials science building on the campus of Ohio State University.

“I didn’t see anything with the shooter, what happened was it was outside of MacQuigg Lab,” Kovacich told The Lantern. “The guy ended up just coming and hopping the curb with his car and trying to mow down a couple people. He lost control, and I think he ended up hitting three people, and then people were around the car. Somebody asked him if he was OK and the guy just hopped out of the car with a butcher knife and starting chasing people around.”

A campus security police officer shot and killed the suspect within minutes of the attack. Authorities believe the attack was pre-planned and the perpetrator is believed to be an 18-year-old Somali man.

An active shooter warning was issued for the campus at OSU by 9:56 a.m. and lifted by 11:14 a.m. After the campus was secured, authorities allowed the students to return home for the remainder of the day. Classes were cancelled.

We live in an unstable world unfortunately,” OSU President Michael Drake said.

But he was reportedly appreciative of the fast response of law enforcement to the scene.

Beware Bad Advice: Books Don’t Stop Bullets

In the midst of a mass shooting or mass violence situation, a lot of bad information is going to get pushed out through social media. We’ve seen some ridiculous things such as “use books as body armor” and using a backpack as a bullet shield.

We’re really sorry to say this but: books don’t make good bullet shields.

The best advice for situations like a mass shooting on campus is to barricade in place and wait for law enforcement.

via FOX News

Rachel LeMaster, who works in the engineering college, told The Associated Press a fire alarm sounded before the attack.

“There were several moments of chaos,” she said. “We barricaded ourselves like we’re supposed to since it was right outside our door and just hunkered down.”

Initial reports claimed there were multiple shooters and plenty of other wrong information. That’s why you should never depend upon unofficial social media channels to get a good assessment.

Evade, barricade, and communicate with law enforcement.

Concealed Carry Punishable By Felony Charges On Ohio Campuses

Ohio is one of the few states that charges permitted concealed carriers with a felony if they walk onto campus. The attacker, in this particular case, used a butcher knife and his vehicle to attempt to kill innocent people. Thankfully, a police officer just happened to be nearby.

Had a police officer not been nearby, it would have been up to students and faculty to flee the scene or fight an armed man without the benefit of a handgun. If a student or faculty member had used a gun, he likely would have faced felony charges for possessing it on campus.

That’s why we need concealed carry on campus.

These situations aren’t going away, folks. It’s up to us to make sure the laws benefit those law-abiding citizens. Otherwise, it’s just bad guys who carry onto “gun free zones”.

postheadericon Homeowner Shoots Violent Intruder — But This Is San Francisco, So He Has To Prove It

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — A well known filmmaker and activist shot and killed an intruder who had made prior threats of violence against him. The shooting occurred inside his home and San Francisco police initially arrested him pending charges of murder. The District Attorney’s office decided to not file charges at this time due to the nature of the shooting. It is believed to have been motivated out of self defense.

via San Francisco Gate

“There was a shooting, and there was a death and it was in self-defense,” the filmmaker’s attorney said. “The person who was killed was an unwanted intruder making serious threats of death.”

Because this is San Francisco — and not nearly anywhere else in the country — someone defending himself inside his own home is almost considered a de facto murderer. The SFGate publication interviewed a legal analyst who reasserted that an individual has a right to defend himself inside his home.

Legal analyst Steve Clark said people have “a heightened right to self-defense if someone comes into your home rather than if you are outside your home. The law respects the sanctity of the home to a degree where you are allowed to use deadly force where elsewhere you wouldn’t.”

Thank goodness this filmmaker had the money to hire good legal council. If the average citizen had done almost precisely the same thing, he or she would have to fight to prove that defending his life and that of his family and property was justified.

The attorney on the case won’t allow the filmmaker to make any comment or potentially incriminate himself by admitting he pulled the trigger.

The suspected intruder is a felon with a history of violence. Marcus Polk, 45, had a prior restraining order against him after making credible threats of violence against the filmmaker and his family. He also threatened a former landlord after refusing to move out.

While the filmmaker does have prior felonies on his record, the use of deadly force in this case is not being contested upon that basis because the District Attorney acknowledges that being a felon does not preclude a person from using deadly force to defend himself.

For an already tumultuous event like being forced to defend your life from a violent intruder, we can see how complicated and expensive the legal process in San Francisco can be. Also, the presumption of innocence until proven guilty does not seem to be the general mentality of San Francisco law enforcement and investigation.

Let’s just hope that their laws and ways of doing business don’t travel too far outside of their jurisdiction.

postheadericon Security Guard Saves Nightclub Crowd From Violent Driver

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA — Outside a nightclub in Birmingham, a security guard had moments to react after a driver rammed a person against a parked vehicle. The driver backed off the person and was about to direct his vehicle towards the rest of the crowd when the security guard took out a legally concealed handgun and shot him.

According to WSFA 12 News, the driver died at the scene and the man he hit was hospitalized. This is a situation that could have been a lot worse if that security guard had not been ready and able to address the situation.

“We are thankful for the heroic actions of the security guard. Further loss of life could have happened, but his quick, responsible actions prevented that. Now we will try to understand motive or reasoning, if any, behind the victim’s reckless actions,” said Sgt. Bryan Shelton with Birmingham police.

Police credit the security guard’s actions with saving the lives of the people outside the nightclub and preventing further injury or death. The motives of the driver are unknown at this time but as we’ve seen with other historic nightclub shootings, a bad situation can get a whole lot worse if there isn’t a responsible person with a gun willing and able to put a stop to it.

Chances are good that anyone planning on staying out late and partying is not likely to be armed or coherent enough to respond to a threatening situation like this. That’s where the role of armed security should be. For those who are of sober mind and good disposition, they are best able to respond to violent threats.

This guy judiciously decided to put an end to the attack when he saw that the driver was not going to stop until he hurt or killed more people. Watching a man being pinned to a parked car and getting crushed is evidence enough that there’s a time to act. Good on this security guard and our condolences to the man who happened to be the canary in the coal mine on a rough situation.

Carry everyday, maintain your situational awareness, and carry responsibly.

postheadericon Prior Victim Of A Violent Burglary Shoots Intruder Who Wanted Seconds

JACKSON, MICHIGAN — A homeowner was forced to defend his life, family, and property when multiple intruders broke down the front door. For this homeowner, though, experience had proven that deadly force is the only acceptable response to home invasion. He shot his pistol at the intruders, critically striking one and sending the rest fleeing.

According to Michigan Live, this wasn’t the first time intruders had broken into the home. In one previous occurrence, they broke in and brutally beat the homeowner. The homeowner, at the time, only had a few hunting rifles and not much in terms of self defense. A prior veteran of the Army for eight years, he reflected that one violent incident is all it takes to prove you can’t count on the bad guys to play nice.

He was understandably shook up about shooting one of the intruders. His son came over once he heard the news and helped his father.

“And people want to ban guns, huh?” his son said. “My father would be dead right now.”

The injured intruder was treated at a nearby hospital where he is currently undergoing surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Once he recovers, he will be charged with his crimes.

For a house with a history of being broken into and robbed, the criminal element that has been targeting him surely knows what to expect if they try again.

A nearby neighbor did a brief interview with a Michigan news outlet where he described the dangers potential criminals will face when coming through this neighborhood.

Suffice it to say, Michigan criminal elements aren’t particularly known for their sophisticated methods when it comes to violence. If for some odd reason some of them do watch this video, they’ll hopefully take heed.

What can we conclude about this incident?

Well, for those on the fence about owning a gun and carrying it, maybe it’s time to look at the reality of that situation. If you’re armed, you have a chance to fight back. If you’re not, you don’t.

Defending your life, your family, and your property doesn’t have to take a lot. Simply maintaining a self defense pistol or revolver and carrying it even while you’re at home ensures you’re just that much more prepared to handle yourself if intruders decide today is their lucky day.
