postheadericon Would-Be Car Thief Sent Packing After 9-Year-Old Takes a Stand

KOKOMO, IN — A Kokomo man made a dumb mistake — he left his car unlocked, with the engine running, with his nine-year-old inside.

A thief attempted to capitalize on his mistake, but wasn’t planning on the little man’s stalwart, pellet gun-based defense.

The resulting scrap led to a different car being stolen, and an entire high-speed chase.

As WTHR reports:

All of this started at the One Stop Express on the corner of Washington and Jefferson in Kokomo, then ended at the American Tool Rental on South Lafountain Street.

Kevin Cooksey and Kyle Sparling stopped by the One Stop as strangers for different reasons… They didn’t know they’d end up leaving together and chasing after someone they say tried to steal both their cars.

“When I saw my truck door open, I was like, ‘oh my God, what am I going to tell my wife?’” said Cooksey. That’s because Cooksey’s 9 year old son, Larry Larimore, was inside – with the engine running. “I was thinking, I hope my son knew what to do in that situation,” said Cooksey.

“As soon as he opened the door, I got scared,” said Larimore. “So I pulled out the pellet gun and pointed it to his head.”

That scared the man enough to get him out of the truck, but then he ran into the next car down – Sparling’s black Trail Blazer, which also had its engine running.

“I didn’t know what to think, I just kind of ran outside and watched him,” said Sparling.

“I wanted to go catch the guy,” said Cooksey. “It’s just one of those instincts to help out somebody else.”

Cooksey told Sparling to get in the truck with them. They called the police and chased the suspect down Washington Street… After a couple miles, the suspect crashed Sparling’s car. Larimore says he’s glad he and his dad were able to help track the suspect down.

I think every boy with a pellet gun has thought about using it to right wrongs to heroic, out-of-its caliber affect. This boy got to live the dream and save the day, without a shot being fired.

Well done.

postheadericon Would-Be Assailant Shot By Homeowner — Police Puzzled As To Why He Refused Medical Treatment, Bled To Death

SPOKANE VALLEY, WASHINGTON — A homeowner out on the waterfront heard a rapping, rapping on his front door. Wisely, he decided to arm up before investigating. It was night time and his house was near the Centennial trail that follows the Spokane River. This, according to neighbors, made these properties more vulnerable to home invasions and robberies in the past.

The decision to arm up before investigating turned out to be a necessity. According to KXLY 4 Spokane News, the homeowner eventually saw a man outside his door and told him to leave. After several moments, the man charged the homeowner and he was forced to defend himself.

He did arm himself prior to answering the door, when he did go outside on the porch, he initially didn’t see anybody, but then noticed a male in his yard,” said Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory.

He fired one shot and the suspect fled outside the property. When police arrived, they say the man who was shot was extremely uncooperative with officers’ attempts to detain and get him treatment.

“The deputies continually tried to calm him (the suspect) down and they were able to detain him and get medics in there, but the male continued to be uncooperative,” said Gregory.

According to police, the suspect was shot through his femoral artery. By refusing prompt medical aid, he bled to death before he could be taken to a hospital.

The homeowner was cooperative with the investigation and is not currently being charged with any crime. The Spokane County Prosecutor will make the final determination.

We could view this as just another law-abiding citizen choosing to defend himself rather than be a victim. A very real scenario played out that night. A man who was probably less than completely sound of mind decided to charge a homeowner. This would have ended in a potentially very violent confrontation where the homeowner’s own life and well-being were put at risk.

Thankfully, the homeowner was wise enough to be prepared.

postheadericon “I Don’t Think You’re Going To Get That Money Today”: Salon Employee Pulls Gun On Would-Be Robber

DAYTON, OHIO — One salon owner wasn’t willing to give up her hard earned money without a fight. That’s the story coming out of Dayton after an attempted robbery was stopped by one woman with a gun. Dayton police are alleging that the robber in question may have been responsible for a string of other robberies in the nearby area. However, his string of crime definitely got stopped cold in its tracks.

According to NBC 4 (WCMH), the suspect entered the salon and pretended to want to purchase a ring. When one of the store owners went to ring him up, he demanded all her money.

“As soon as [my girlfriend] opened the drawer he said, ‘I don’t want any trouble, just give me all the money,’” Hoblit said. “At that point my girlfriend’s instincts kicked in and we had a pistol underneath and she grabbed the pistol, pointed it right at his face and said, ‘I don’t think you’re going to get that money today.’”

It’s a situation that small business owners are faced with all too regularly: your money or your well being. Both are valuable. But for many business owners, they can’t afford to lose their money every single time some thug decides to knock them off. That’s why they’re increasingly relying upon their own method of protection: arming up.

“She was really upset,” Hoblit said. “But she’s not going to give up our money. This is our season. We’re a small family business. This is what we live off of and she’s not going to give that up.”

The robber managed to get away but between several other corroborating reports from other previously hit establishments, a general description of the man and the vehicle he used to escape in has been released. Dayton police are hot on his trail. In the meantime, staying responsibly armed and carrying every day — especially into your own business — is essential.
